Selected Work #5: Stokes Wedding Design Suite

Client: Leslie Stokes | Services: Freelance Graphic Design

Leslie approached me in July, 2025, when she started planning her wedding. She knew I did UX/UI/Web Design but asked whether I did Graphic Design as well, because she needed help making little graphics for keepsakes like matchboxes that she wanted to give her guests. She was also interested in a full Invitation Suite, but wasn't totally sure what all she wanted.

The first thing I did was iron out colors, fonts, and style. I worked with the client to hear what she was envisioning, and poured over my libraries to make selections that would fit. After a little back and forth with ideas, we settled on a full wedding brand identity - complete with logos, a color palette, and fonts.

Suite Items:

  • Wedding Invitation

  • Details Card

  • Rehearsal Dinner Invitation

  • Dinner Menu

  • Seating Chart Cards

  • Wedding Program

  • Crest Logo

  • KL Logo

  • "The Smokes" Logo

  • "Baxter The Dog" Logo

Project Description

Challenge: Wedding Suite designed for print.

Leslie wanted a suite of wedding designs that felt timeless and traditional. She didn't want anything too stylized or modern; she wanted elegance but did not want to compromise on readability and ease of use. She sent me some samples of designs she liked, including the invitation from her mother and father's wedding to jumpstart the design process. The first thing I did was send her my initial thoughts on colors and fonts - narrowed down to five sets of colors and font pairings. Once we had the look and feel ironed out, we worked through the content, which I helped her edit. After we got the Invitation just right, we transitioned into making all of the other designs match and eventually ended up with the full suite of designs you see above.

Process

Design Approach / Framework: For this Graphic Design project, I followed a Production-Driven Design process. This framework was the best fit given the scope of the work, especially since the end products needed to be ready for print. I went back and forth with the client, iterating on our ideas until we ended up with designs that blew the client away. I began by understanding the context of use and breadth of needed designs. From there, I defined colors, font, and look and feel. Then, I produced and refined design solutions through both low- and high-fidelity mockups, iterating as much as needed. Once the design of the invitation was approved, I transitioned into building out the other needed designs like the Details Card, Rehearsal Invitation, and so on. Throughout the process, I regularly evaluated and refined the materials to make sure that they would translate well in print. I also worked directly with the printers to ensure that everything would come out as expected. The client was absolutely thrilled with the outcome!
